Cold and Bored

The calm before the tornado
In Wisconsin
As a child
Was beautiful
Why did everyone go into the basement?
I wanted to see the pink of the skies
Swirl
And the trees bend and crack
I wanted to feel the power of something I later called Thor
Not the boring of a cold sit in the basement
With a horde of chinchillas and scared sisters

The mouse ran up the clock .
The clock struck one .
The mouse got caught between some gears .
A week later, people wondered where the smell came from .
